Getting around in Prague

The public transportation system in Prague consists mainly of buses, metro and trams. There is also a funicular going onto the top of the hill "Petrin" with beautiful view over the Old Town and the central parts of the New Town. Tickets with four different periods of validity are available:

  • 30 minutes - 24 CZK
  • 90 minutes - 32 CZK
  • 24 hours - 110 CZK
  • 72 hours - 310 CZK

All tickets are transfer tickets, i.e., you are allowed to change among different kinds of transportation as many time as you need until the ticket expires. The ticket must be validated in one of the yellow validators (at the entrances to the metro, inside the trams and buses). The tickets are available in ticket machines at metro stations, at the public transportation information centres, most tobacconists and selected bus/tram stops. All the tickets are valid for the whole city area including airport bus lines 100, 119, 191, 319 and 510 (except for the fast Airport express AE coaches that operate at their own rates).

For more detailed information about the public transportation in Prague, visit this page. Particular connection between the two places in the city can be found here.

From the Airport to the Institute:

At the airport we recommend you to visit one of the "Public transport information" kiosks and buy a couple of short-term tickets or two 72-hours ones. Then follow the signs outside Terminals to take bus no. 119 to the "Nadrazi Veleslavin" station. There take the green line [A] metro up to the "Namesti Miru" and then take one station in the opposite direction to "Muzeum" station, where the trains in the former direction no not stop while it is under reconstruction. Here, change to the red line [C] in the direction "Letnany" and leave at the fourth stop at "Nadrazi Holesovice". There you exit towards the end of the train, take a left turn on the top of the staircase and go through the door to the bus stop. There you take line 112 towards ZOO or 201 towards "Cerny Most". Exit on the first stop after the bridge over the river (press the STOP button), which is just next to the Institute. For further information or other options see this page or this page.
